Als "das dünnste und leichteste ThinkPad“ bezeichnet Lenovo das neue X300 Subnotebook. Auge in Auge mit dem Apple MacBook Air, aber Lenovo setzt im Gegensatz zu Apple nicht auf LifeStyle-Faktor, sondern auf Business- und Kommunikationsfähigkeit der Oberklasse. Im Inneren befinden sich ein Intel Core 2 Duo ULV SL7100 mit 1,20 GHz, Intel GM965 Chipsatz, Intel GMA X3100 Grafik, 2 GB Arbeitsspeicher und einer 64 GB SSD aus dem Hause Samsung. Zudem bekommt man ein Multi-DVD-Laufwerk, dass das MacBook Air nicht bieten kann, obwohl die Gehäusemaße fast übereinstimmen. Für gute Hardware im Magnesiumgehäuse muss man aber ca. 2700 EUR bezahlen.
